Mother Tongue had the great opportunity to DJ a float with ‘I amsterdam’ for the 2009 New York City Pride Parade.

‘I amsterdam’ is the motto for the Amsterdam area. It is the city’s marketing initiative as a means for Amsterdam to profile itself assertively on the international arena.

The Deputy Mayor of Amsterdam, Carolien Gehrels, who is married to a woman, was among a delegation of officials from the Netherlands. They were all attending the NYC Pride Celebration to embrace efforts to legalize same-sex marriage in New York State.

The theme was Marriage Equality. The float had a huge wedding cake displayed, as well as over 50 people from Amsterdam and the U.S. dancing and cheering as it traveled down 5th Avenue to Greenich Village. The music for the float was provided by Mother Tongue’s John LoBello.

thank you turntables on the hudson!!

I came across this video last night and it made me feel excited and inspired for the present and future because of something that began in the past. i only hope to be a part of something now, that will be looked upon in the past that will give way to inspiration for the future.

i wanted to give a shout out to the guys from “turntables on the hudson”. for me, being able to hear good music, with good people and a good vibe, especially outside under the stars, is what helps me understand our human connection to the world around us and the world inside us.

it is so important to let loose and have fun. to enjoy life. to be easy and happy. this is living, feeling, believing.

when we feel good we vibrate this goodness which helps attract more good. i want to be part of this machine.

thank you music.

there is always an end and there is always a beginning, and there is all the time in between.

and this cycle goes on repeating itself through our own individual interpretation of what gives us  our definition of “end” and of  “beginning.”

this  becomes our personal journey and what actually defines our meanings of this lay deep inside ourselves.  as outsiders we can try and understand, we can try and relate our own understanding of this circle to others, when in reality it is ours and ours alone.

when we love someone we try and empathize and have compassion.  we try and offer our energy to help them with their end and their beginning.  whether their moment is  positive or  negative, we attempt to give something to the overall purpose of the ones we love.

what really is life.  why do we harp on so many insignificant details and are not available for the most significant.

why do we run out of time, cannot make a phone call, take time to visit, judge, worry about other people’s decisions and choices?  why do we not only worry about ourselves and how to be the best person we can be under all circumstances?

why is there not emphasis on caring and accepting?  why do people care who we love, what we do and how we do it?

we live in a world where the quick fix is the solution and the devastating end is the reality.  where we condition ourselves to accept tragedy with no time to deal and breathe.

i find so much beauty in my everyday activities.  but i do  have to actually be aware of slowing down and giving a moment to be thankful, otherwise i get wisked away with my deadlines and obligations.

time seems like it gets blamed for so much.  there is never enough time in the day, we always want one more day, where did the time go, if we only had more time.

we need to make time work in our favor.  that is what it is here for.  there is nothing but time and it is our job to keep ourselves aware of this and the people around us.

i write this with many different emotions and thoughts.  i have neglected writing because, well, i had no time.  hence the theme.  it is a constant as far as reminding myself to make the time.

we have so many awesome things happening for mother tongue music and we are so excited to begin sharing them with you.

we have been asked by theatremama to DJ cirque du soleil’s 25th anniversary party in nyc this month.  cirque is attempting to break the world record for number of stilt walkers up at the same time.  should be quite the event.  we will share photos and let you know how it goes!!!

i leave you today with the beautiful sounds of alkemx and his track, “time to lounge” off the magma album.

Alkemx, also known as Piero de Asmundis, started his career as a pianist and composer in Italy, working with the “South Pole Ballet”. Over the years he has worked with many prominent Italian Jazz artists. As time went by he began taking a stronger interest in sampling and sequencers and Alkemx was born.

you never know what you will find.

when i was a little girl, i felt like my best friend was music.

when i sat in front of my mother’s radio with the headphones, playing with the equalizer, that was when i was the happiest.

i would dance alone to the music when i was at a friend’s sleep over.  when it was christmas or my birthday, all i wanted were cassette taps, record albums and posters of my current favorite artist. and when i was home alone i would sit at the piano and pretend i could play.

i would daydream (i still daydream) of making my career solely from working with music.

today i am so very close and writing these blogs have connected me to a passion i have carried with me for as long as i can remember.

i decide on the tracks to share and blog about from my current mood, or a memory that i may have that day, maybe from some music i hear on the radio or internet or while i am doing research i stumble upon a gem.

last night while i was driving home from my favorite restaurant in northampton massachusetts,  paradiso, i was listening to the 93.9 the river.  specifically the chillside of the river.  i do not recall the dj, but as i was listening i heard a track that i was eager to find out the artist and use it for my blog.  i have sent the river an e.mail hoping to get the information.

there is a group that has been a staple of my music collection and today i share with you the amazing ability of a group to change genres and still remain at the top of the list.

i am speaking of the one and only BEASTIE BOYS!!

unfortunetly  i have not been able to find that exact track.  it had vocals and an amazing composition.  the vocals sounded like bajka (pronounced “biker”) from bonobo’s album, “days to come”.

as i was searching for that specific song i heard on the river,   i did find a different tune equally satisfying. just no vocals.

the beastie boys delivered their album “the in sound from the way out” in 1996 on capital records. and it was all instrumental.
