hush collective spins cirque du soleil’s 25th anniversary party!!
on june 16, 2009, mother tongue music had the opportunity to be a part of cirque du soleil’s 25th anniversary party in new york city.
hush collective played for hundreds of new yorkers and tourists while cirque tried to break the world record for how many people they could get up on stilts at one time.
the event was held on pier 84, the circle line pier of off the west side highway.
the day was perfect not too much sun to make it unbearably hot and no rain.
in june of 2004 cirque du soleil set the first guinness world record for stilt-walking with 544 employees from its international headquarters in montreal. in 2006, a group of japanese people beat cirque’s record with 614 stilt-walkers and, in 2008, 625 young people from brandford, ontario (canada) took the title from the japanese.
five years after the first guiness world record for the most people simultaneously walking on stilts, cirque du soleil invited its artists, employees and fans of fortaleza (brazil), las vegas (u.s.a.), lisbon (portugal), macau (china), montreal (canada), nagoya (japan), new york (u.s.a.), orlando (u.s.a.) and tokyo (japan), as well as the population of moscow (russia), to gather on june 16th, 2009 and help reclaim the title.
