HUSH COLLECTIVE

Hush Collective is the new world beat/downtempo moniker for music innovator DJ Hush and keyboard player Tharyn Nein-Large. DJ Hush, got his start behind the decks in Queens, NY at the young age of 12 and met long time keyboard player, Tharyn, while studying at UMASS during his college years. Since, his abilities have earned him international recognition and brought him to Australia, Peru, Mexico, Montreal, Toronto, and various cities in the US including Miami, New York, and Chicago. His house tracks are favorites in the crates of many world renown DJ’s such as Lee Burridge and Doc Martin, and have appeared on many compilations including the Global Underground series (Lee Burridge 24:7), The prolific Fabric series out of London (Lee Burridge & Craig Richards Tyrant 2), and DJ Vibe’s “Global Groove’s.” From House to Bhangra, Disco to Hip Hop, Latin to Dub, Techno to Funk, Hush Collective magically flows from one genre to the next and knows no boundaries. Since 2004, their “La Dolce Notte” party, known for it’s ecletic, mesmorizing mix of world beats and decadent sounds, continues to shine the first Thursday of every month at PCT in Northampton, MA. DJ Hush & Tharyn continue to work on their studio album and plan on releasing it December 2010. Expect beautiful vocals, enchanting melodies, and a world infused mix of sounds. Be on the lookout for the Hush Collective’s spellbinding “La Dolce Notte” double disc mix cd set to be released on Mother Tongue Music April 6th. Second Sky

The following has been my experience lately. As this first CD release gets closer to the finish, I must say I have moments of doubt and uncertainty.  And that is just what I have to leave them as, moments of doubt and uncertainty.  Nothing more.  I have been noticing that they have been increasing as I get closer to the finish line.  I have come to accept that it is quite normal and that it is just going to be a part of the process.  I have been letting these thoughts run through me and just moving forward.  I think the mental part of releasing art holds many back.  Seems like the ones who do it just think a lot less and do a lot more.

It is a rainy, cloudy, march morning and I have to admit there is something about weather like this I really like.  Maybe its because I am looking at it from my bedroom window and I am not outside :) .. I have a cool view from my bedroom of the old mill town that I live in. I took 10 minutes when I first woke up to sit back and enjoy the view of the canal, the old mill town, and the cars going by. It really put me in a good head space.

Well I am really hoping to have this project finished by Monday. I only have two shows this week so I have a lot more time to work on it.  Here is a tune that I have been enjoying lately, it actually sounds like my view from my bedroom window this morning.  When I first heard it and the drums began, I thought I was about to hear a recent cover or interpolation of Marvin Gaye’s “Inner City Blues.” This spazzed me for a second as I have been working on a cover of that most recently.  Anyway choice tune here Second Sky, great sound and really feeling the vocals. I look forward to hearing more from you.

visions to manifestation…

Posted in Recommended Albums on March 2nd, 2009 by b.

i am sitting in the haymarket cafe in northampton, mass. i woke up to many new inches of snow on the ground. yesterday my grass in my yard was there and i could see all the dog poop that had been covered for so long, and today all white and no poop. (i have come to the realization that picking the poop up directly following the secretion is the way to go, especially in the winter.  i guess the snow does not evaporate it).

i am still finishing the business plan needed for mother tongue. it is quite a feat in itself to complete. for me, i sit and create its potential on paper and vision its long term survival. i feel like i am playing a game like when i was little. we would play office or hairdresser, school or pretend to be in a band. in a way it was the same thing i am doing now. we are still in its development, but it feels so real to us. so normal to own a label and see its huge success.

one of the things i am writing about today in the business plan is our quality of artists both on the musical front and the image front. we will be using photographs, drawings, graphic design and video created by our friends, hoping to generate interest for them as well. we are creating an image people can relate to and feel connected to. mother tongue music is a community.

as i debated leaving the house, my mind yearned for socialness. (i am often in my head, alone with nothing but my computer and thoughts) change is something i constantly need to avoid the stagnant stop. to continue in this process i put in a homemade cd that read “beatmix”. hmmmm, i thought. what could be on this? i have many many random mixes displaced throughout my existence.

the first song on the mix was “white breathe”, by calm. i remember making this mix. it was several years ago before i had any idea i would be making my living by living my dream. i love to find unrecognized music and make mix cds for my friends.

as i drove through the freshly fallen snow, driving along huge plows, my heat on high, i knew this was the end of winter. perhaps our last snowstorm. i could feel the springtime energy begin to beat in my soul. an excitement for future was resonating . and the sounds of “white breathe” gave dawn to the coming warm and healthy vegetation waiting to blossom once again.  both outside around me and inside of me.

tokyo producer calm has appeared on my different compilations and has been featured in releases on ubiquity, compost, yellow productions and on francois kevorkian’s wave label. calm is also much in demand for his mixing skills having successfully completed mixes for arto lindsay, modaji and femi kuti.
