thank you turntables on the hudson!!

Posted in Good News, Music We Like on August 12th, 2009 by b.

I came across this video last night and it made me feel excited and inspired for the present and future because of something that began in the past. i only hope to be a part of something now, that will be looked upon in the past that will give way to inspiration for the future.

i wanted to give a shout out to the guys from “turntables on the hudson”. for me, being able to hear good music, with good people and a good vibe, especially outside under the stars, is what helps me understand our human connection to the world around us and the world inside us.

it is so important to let loose and have fun. to enjoy life. to be easy and happy. this is living, feeling, believing.

when we feel good we vibrate this goodness which helps attract more good. i want to be part of this machine.

thank you music.

2 Ninos and Champeta

Posted in Good News on December 9th, 2008 by admin

My friend Jess showed me this video and I wanted to share it with you all. Pretty simply, seeing these two little guys rockin’ it like this really moved and inspired me! I did some general research on Champeta and found this.

“Some Colombian communities, such as Chocó, Cartagena and Providencia Island, have large African-descendant communities. Unlike most of the country, cultural mixing with native and European influences have been rare, and, especially in El Chocó, music has changed little since being imported from West Africa. Providencia Island is also home to a type of folk music which is closely related to mento, a Jamaican folk form. Most influentially, however, is the city of Cartagena and its champeta music which has been influenced by soukous, compas and raggae. Champeta musicians have included Luis Towers, El Afinaíto, El Sayayín, El Pupy and Boogaloo, while others, like Elio Boom, have incorporated Jamaican raggamuffin music to champeta. Another noteworthy band is BIP, who originally did champeta music and currently are doing reggaeton, without leaving behind their champeta roots.”

sept. 21. peace one day. education.

Posted in Good News on December 4th, 2008 by b.

i have decided to continue posting videos related to the “peace one day” message.  i find it extremely inspiring.

what i am wondering is, why is there little known information about this great effort in the united states.  especially when dealing with education.

we at mother tongue music are going to try and get as involved as possible.  i have written to peaceoneday.org stating that we would love to become fuel for this very important fire.

i am hoping to be able to show the documentary that jeremy gilley has done, in which he documented his travels around the world and his conversations with so many high profile people, discussing peace.

he has also traveled the world communicating with children, students and teachers.  here in this video it is easy to see the passion behind these efforts and the support following.

please take the time and watch.  thank you.

peace one day. it will happen.

Posted in Good News on November 24th, 2008 by b.

sometimes something happens in my day that stops me and makes me as present as humanly possible.

for instance, when i meet a stranger and randomly engage in real conversation, to only walk away with that brief moment we shared and our words we gave one another. perfect strangers speaking with no expectation, just some connection that we both decided was worth the time. and a feeling that someone else out there feels the same. especially when it is someone much older and wiser than me. then i walk away with confidence that i am going the right way.

in these pure moments i am reminded of the possibility and the chance we all have to make a difference. large or small. it just takes a moment to stop, listen and look around.

i was in hawaii this past august and september. i was lucky enough to be alone, and with nothing but time to be still. in my stillness i allowed myself to explore my needs of my mind and intuition. and it was on one of these days that i had found my way to the man who founded peaceoneday.org and his message.

in 1999, filmmaker jeremy gilley set out to establish the first ever day to me recognized for world peace. in september of 2001 the united nations unanimously adopted a day of cease fire and non-violence. september 21.

i am alarmed at the fact that i had never heard of peaceoneday.org until august. it has been in action for almost ten years. a day dedicated to world peace and recognized by all nations. i made a pledge that day that i was introduced to peace one day. i would share and be aware of the efforts truly being made. we will not see them on the television, or read it in the paper. we will learn by taking the time and sharing with one another.

please take the time and watch this video, share it with others and believe in its’ purpose.

Imagine You Went To The Moon…

Posted in Good News on November 6th, 2008 by admin

I came across this video today while doing some record shopping and I must say it really moved me. As I was watching, I stood in awe of all it took to make that happen. All the different people, with different talents, from different places, all coming together for this single vision and the chance that their efforts may bring forth something profound. Could you imagine the determination that took? And how about all the obstacles and all the times people must have been like, “Can we really do this?” But something inside kept pushing them forward. The human race can be so beautiful.

The video was put together by a teacher named Kevin Imfeld to spark the interest of middle school students in manned space flight. The photos in the video were found on the Nasa website and the music is by Tim Motzer, who I just discovered today from his work with Nucultures, an excellent band from Phiadelphia which I highly recommend checking out. I will leave you with one of their tunes below. Thanks Kevin for this inspiring video.
