Mother Tongue Music is an independent record label dedicated to exploring foreign lands for some of the finest sounds from around the world and bringing them to you.  Mother Tongue Music was established in 1999, by John LoBello (DJ Hush/Hush Collective).  John co-owned a underground vinyl record store, The Growroom. Which was  located in Amhert, Ma.  Through the change digital downloading brought, The Growroom closed its doors in 2004.  The music business shifted, but John’s  passion did not.  John began his dedicated quest to bring the world’s great undiscovered music to the people. In 2005, Bethany Daley joined the team and Mother Tongue Music began with a new, strong vision. This blog is an easily accessible portal to share that music with you. Here is a quick guide to the content on this site.

On this site’s home page you can find John and Bethay’s blog, as well as some great blogs from our friends.  Also you will find that our blogs are loaded with great tunes from some of the best producers and musicians in the world.  As we continue on this journey we find amazing, inspirational bits we like to call “Good News.” (please take the time to watch and share). Then you will find our “Music Lounge” and “Podcast”, which hosts an array of superb DJ mixes and choice playlists providing you with hours of listening pleasure.

Lastly, visit our online “Shop” for our new and old releases.  Music featuring,  downtempo, chill, world, dub, reggae and house.  So please, tune in! We know you will find many great discoveries on this site. Enjoy.

Today I decided to update the site and found myself excited to also share a post,  it has been awhile. With the release of La Dolce Notte almost behind us and our next series on the horizon, I seem to be distracted from sharing my thoughts and some tunes I am listening to currently. So today I decided to take the time.

Both John and I believe so much in what we are doing with Mother Tongue Music.  As we continue on the journey of making an independent label a success, we meet challenge after challenge.  We are learning as we go and we dedicate every last bit of the days energy to the process.

The idea of something is easy, but the commitment is can be tough at times.  Things do not always work out, mistakes are made, our personal lives need our attention, our health and balance shifts. But then the days of good news come and we are filled with inspiration passion and desire.

In a world where mainstreams dominates, bringing new music to people is quite fulfilling.  My mother is a great example.  Since we began La Dolce Notte, she has been our experiment.  She is someone who might have been intimidated by the different styles, but due to the fact that she is my mom, she was willing to give it a chance.  She is now one of our biggest advocates, sharing with her friends and co-workers the music we provide.  What I notice is an excitement in the newness and a new perspective to music.  This IS why i do what i do.  Music IS the universal language and it brings people together.  Whether it be to dance, to lounge, to feel, etc.

Wax Tailor is the alias of French trip hop/hip hop producer, Jean-Christoph Le Saout.

After being a host on a French radio in the Paris suburb of Mantes-La-Jolie, JC Le Saout started the French Rap band La Formule in the 1990s. He created his label Lab’Oratoire in 1998 and produced records from La Formule as well as Break Beat compilations and a collaboration with the Swedish band Looptroop.  He began work on the Wax Tailor project in 2001

Lots of things happening here at Mother Tongue Music.

First we would like to thank everyone who has been a part of our 2009 and the success it brought. The good energy and love we have received is working! In a few weeks we will share with you our first major compilation brought to you by Mother Tongue Music, mixed by Hush Collective.  We are quite excited to say the least!!!!!

This double disc will take you on a journey around the world and where ever your imagination wants to take you.  We are very proud of this compilation. We have had the amazing opportunity to work with some of the world’s most talented musicians, producers and labels, as well as working with the brilliance of graphic designer, John Dill of NYC.

Over the next few months and year, we will be working on developing our website, sharing podcasts and creating more compilations that satisfy listeners from beginning to end.

There is always a story to tell and a story to hear, we hope that as we begin telling our story, you hear it, believe in it and become part of it.
